In recent times the word upcycle has taken hold and become part of most peoples vocabulary. If you haven't yet started using the term you need to. In my parents day they just considered it part of everyday normal life to use something until it could not be used any more, and then to re-purpose it if at all possible. I remember watching my Mom remove the buttons from an old shirt, saving them to sew on to a different shirt that had lost it's buttons. Then, she would cut up the old shirt for rags, or turn it into a smock for one of us kids. She would never think of throwing it away. At some point in time all of that changed and everything became disposable. Thankfully we have come full circle and again it is fashionable to make the most out of our resources. A good portion of the very popular
Pinterest site addresses crafty items that re-use otherwise disposable or unwanted or "trash" type materials. Grandma's House encourages up-cycling and is happy to bring you these types of items in the store. Our
"Pinterest Party Craft Classes" will also stress the idea of turning "trash into treasures."
Item of the Day
This cute little scottie dog comes to us by way of an upcycled sweater. Created by Stephanie Woodrum and selling for $7.00, proof that turning trash into treasure is definitely possible.
